Tech Open Air – UNCONFERENCE

This Thursday, July 16th at 12:30pm

I will attend a talk on Art & Technology at TOA15
this Thursday, July 16th at 12:30pm @ Base 2.1

Gottes Kante

Art and technology not only share the same basic questions sometimes – in ancient Greek days they also shared the same name: τέχνη / technē, meaning the work of art itself but also the means of its production. The main difference between art and technology? Art does not have to serve a purpose while technology has a function. Jan Kage talks with the three exhibiting artists Brisolla, Bartsch and Vert to learn about their take on technology.

Participants:
Anina Brisolla, Viron Erol Vert and Malte Bartsch
Moderator: Jan Kage

WORK
ABOUT

Anina Brisolla

Anina Brisolla's video art can be described as digital painting and collage. Her large-format works are the result of an intensive research, during which she collects image material on her subject. In a second step of the creative process, she uses a PC to turn this raw material into collages, add painted scenes and components and finally animate the whole.

The resulting scenes look clearly recognizable, but remain elusive regarding their interpretation. Due to titles such as "Landnahme (land seizure)" "Siedlung (settlement)" or "Amok", social and political aspects are always implicit in the works – which, however, evade any attempts to read a single, simple meaning into them, retaining their character as pieces of art.

Anina Brisolla's video loops focus on the relationship between nature and culture, the differences between the made and the grown. On the formal level, this investigation is reflected in the transfer that is part of her working process, the transformation and re-interpretation of found media – from a digital photo to a drawing and back to a digital format.

Anina Brisolla studied at the AKI in Enschede, Netherlands, and the School of Visual Arts in New York, USA, and has been living and working in Berlin, Germany, since 2001.
She has shown her works at Cologne's KunstFilmBiennale, at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art and at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, among others.
